Loose Leash Walking

A technique used in dog training where a dog is taught to walk on a leash without pulling, lunging or dragging the owner. The dog is trained to keep the leash relaxed with no tension, while walking alongside or slightly behind the owner. Loose leash walking is an important skill for dogs to learn as it promotes good behavior and reduces the risk of injury to both the dog and the owner during walks.

Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety can range from mild to moderate or severe. The dog is in a state of panic and stress when left alone. This can appear in the form of excessive barking, tearing up or chewing belongings, or even hurting themselves when left alone or in a crate. The dog is obsessed with thinking about when you are coming home rather than enjoying the calm of a quiet house. Depending on the severity, sometimes a vet is also needed in conjunction with training to help with the stress and anxiety. What we do is work on alleviating the stress and emphasizing calming behaviors. Then we work on leaving and returning in increments of time. The goal ultimately is for your dog to learn that you will always come back and there is no need for the anxiety.

Resource Guarding

A behavior displayed by some dogs where they become defensive or aggressive when they perceive a threat to something they consider valuable or a resource. These resources can include food, toys, bones, or even their owner's attention or affection. When a dog resource guards, they may growl, bark, snap or bite to protect their resource from perceived threats.

Agility Training

A type of dog sport that involves the dog navigating through an obstacle course consisting of jumps, tunnels, weave poles, A-frames, seesaws, and other equipment. The dog and handler work together as a team, with the handler guiding the dog through the course using verbal cues, body language, and hand signals. Agility training can also have practical applications in the real world, as it can help improve a dog's confidence, coordination, and responsiveness to commands. It is also a great way to provide mental stimulation and exercise for dogs, which can improve their overall health and well-being.

AKC Canine Good Citizen

CGC is a certification program offered by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in the United States. It is designed to recognize dogs that demonstrate good behavior and obedience in a variety of everyday situations. The CGC program is open to all dogs, including mixed breeds, and aims to promote responsible dog ownership and good manners in dogs. To earn a CGC certification, dogs must pass a series of ten tests that evaluate their behavior and obedience in various scenarios, such as walking on a loose leash, accepting friendly strangers, sitting politely for petting, coming when called, and remaining calm around distractions.
